About Our Foundation

Meal Delivery

In 2019, the Thomas and McMahan Cancer Foundation provided nearly 600 people with the following assistance: cab rides, gas cards, meal delivery, in-home caregiver services, and yoga classes. This year we are hoping to expand that number even more! If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer and needs the type of assistance that insurance doesn’t cover, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Caregiver assistance and In-Home Care

We provide patients throughout the Greater New Orleans area with caregiver services through our partners at Dependable In Home Care. Some of the duties that the caregivers can provide include bathing and grooming assistance, meal prep, medication reminders, errands, and light housekeeping. Our foundation covers 8 four-hour sessions of caregiver services for each patient referred, and Dependable will extend a discounted rate for any continued caregiver services throughout treatment. Transportation

The two main programs at our foundation are the gas cards and taxi cab rides, which help patients get to/from the doctor for appointments and treatment. Many cancer patients have a hard time either finding a ride to their appointments, or cannot afford to pay for the gas it requires to get there. We provide gas cards or we provide cab rides to/from medical appointments. Last year alone we sent out gas cards to over 300 people and provided cab rides to over 100 people! This year we are hoping to increase that number, but we need your help to do it. Please consider donating to our foundation so we can continue to help cancer patients get to their medical appointments!

Yoga Classes

FREE YOGA CLASSES!!

TMCF offers FREE YOGA CLASSES for cancer patients and survivors in Metairie, Slidell and Covington! Yoga can help the body heal physically and build strength, and help mentally and emotionally to soothe stress and anxiety. Call 985-788-6951 for more information.

Help Those Who Need It Most

The Thomas & McMahan Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for New Orleans area cancer patients and their families throughout their cancer experience. Our customized patient programs and services allow patients to regain control of their lives during difficult times. We provide many services that are not covered by traditional means or health insurance.

The Foundation is supported through corporate sponsorships, individual gifts and bequests, and annual fundraisers. We have received grants from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Louisiana Breast Cancer Task Force, the St. Tammany Cancer Fund, and other local and national organizations.

Many worthwhile organizations are striving to find a cure for this insidious disease, and to otherwise assist in the fight. The Foundation is unique, as we strive to impact individual patients in our own community in small but meaningful ways.
