Dr. Leonard C. Thomas

Dr. Thomas, a New Orleans area oncologist, spearheaded the creation of the Foundation in 2001. He lost his own courageous battle with cancer in 2005. He was a selfless volunteer in his own community, as well as under extreme conditions in Africa and Asia. His vision and generosity have continued to inspire those who contribute to the Foundation and those who are helped by its work.

Dr. Tina McMahan

Dr. McMahan was a local pediatrician who loved children, loved her friends and family, and loved life. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, and lived a full and happy life for more than eight years until her death in September 2006. Tina knew it was important to appreciate the little things life offers and to always take time to help others.

Our Story

In 2020, the Thomas and McMahan Cancer Foundation provided nearly 400 people with the following assistance: cab rides, gas cards, meal delivery, and yoga classes. This year we are hoping to expand that number by much more. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer and needs the type of assistance that insurance doesn’t cover, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Our Mission & Approach

By helping provide cancer patients with assistance by giving helping with their transportation and home care we can help to make their cancer treatements better. In addition to that, we provide yoga and meal assistance to help improve the mental and physical well being. We are there for cancer patients when they need it most, because no one should have to fight cancer alone.
